1st team end on a high, 09.04.2008
  Warwickshire's 1st side signed off the season in fine style after three excellent victories against Buckinghamshire, Surrey and Essex at Baminton Headquarters, Milton Keynes in the Inter-County Championships.

They defeated Bucks 7-3 and Surrey 6-4 on the Saturday and defeated Essex 6-4 on Sunday to finish in third position on 49 points. Essex finished in second on 57 and the reigning Champions, Yorkshire on 66.

Mark Sellwood opened up proceedings with a difficult match against England's Nathan Rice in the mens singles at number one. Rice won the match 21/18, 21/17 but Chris Dakin levelled when he beat Stuart Barratt 21/16, 21/12.

Jill Pittard demolished Jenny Crump 21/11, 21/10 to make up for Mary Le Druillenec's defeat to Munn Tzin Bong 21/16, 21/16 to level at 2-2.

The turning point of this match came in the mens and ladies doubles as Warwickshire won all four matches. Carl Goode & Chris Roe beat Nathan Rice & Jurgen Van Leeuwan 22/20, 21/17 and Rajeev Bagga & Chris Dakin beat Arthur Chung & Colm Smith 21/17, 21/12.

Catherine Grant & Jill Pittard defeated Sam Andrews & Alyssa Lim 21/15, 21/14 and Nicola Duerden & Claire Millward overcame Mun Tzin Bong & Karen Hird 20/22, 21/11, 21/17.

Carl Goode & Catherine Grant won their mixed doubles encounter against Leeuwan & Hird 21/17, 21/6 to ensure the points for a good start to the weekend.

v Surrey 6-4

Surrey took the early iniative in the match as they won both mens singles as Ben Beckham beat Mark Sellwood 21/16, 21/11 and Robert Kettle beat Chris Dakin 24/22, 21/18.

However, the reliable Jill Pittard beat Eleanor Cox 21/10, 21/16 and Le Druillenec beat Anna Van Piggelen 21/19, 21/11 to level the scores at 2-2.

The mens and ladies doubles were shared to make the overall score of 4-4 with the mixed doubles remaining. Good & Roe lost to Max Gardner & Steve Higgins 19/21, 21/18, 21/18 but Bagga & Sellwood beat Beckham & James Molyneux 21/14, 19/21, 21/18.

Pittard & Grant beat Haley Connor & Sam Ward 23/21, 21/18 but Duerden & Millward lost to Karen Beckham & Piggelen 21/14, 19/21, 21/18.

Both mixed doubles pairings secured the victory as Roe & Millward beat Higgins & Connor 21/17, 21/19 and Goode & Grant beat Gardiner & Ward 24/22, 17/21, 24/22 to win the match.

v Essex W 6-4

The toughest match to conclude the season as Essex were chasing Yorkshire for the title and on paper looked to have the edge.

Mark Sellwood won his first mens singles match of the weekend with an excellent win over Daniel Plant 21/19, 15/21, 21/16 but Dakin lost to Joel Gayle 22/20, 21/17.

Pittard completed a clean sweep in her singles as she dismissed Sarah Walker 21/10, 21/10 for her third straight win and Le Druillenec beat Sue Crompton 21/16, 21/14 to take an early 3-1 lead.

Chris Tonks & Bagga lost the first mens doubles to England's Peter Jeffrey & James Anderson 21/18, 21/16 but Goode & Roe restored the lead beating Andy Frye & Gayle 21/18, 21/19.

Pittard & Grant lost their first ladies doubles to Walker & Corrina Bryant 21/18, 21/16 but Duerden & Millward defeated Crompton & Viv Gillard 21/16, 21/10 to level at 4-4 with two mixed doubles remaining.

Tonks & Grant overcame Jeffrey & Gillard 16/21, 21/16, 21/16 at number one and Goode & Millward secured the win with a three set victory over Anderson & Bryant 21/15, 11/21, 21/13.

Warwickshire's 4th side completed the Inter-County season in emphatic style beating Staffordshire's 3rd's at Rugeley.

The singles players ensured an early lead after they won 3-1 with Denesh Passi beat Cameron Owen 21/19, 21/15, Puneet Sharma beat Matt Jeans 18/21, 21/10, 21/16 and Tracy Harris beat Clare Perks 21/11, 24/26, 21/17.

The level doubles matches were shared at 4-4 with both mens pairings winning one game each but Fara Moloobhai & Tracy Harris won both ladies doubles against combinations of Alison Jeans & Clare Perks 14/21, 21/15, 21/14 and Alison Reynolds & Sue Tate 19/21, 24/22, 21/11 in three games to take a lead.

The mixed doubles matches went 2-1 in favour of Warwickshire as Phil Baker & Helen Richmond beat Simon Freeman & Clare Perks 16/21, 21/18, 21/17 and Dave Ingleson and four match winner, Tracy Harris, overcame Simon Goodwin & Alison Reynolds 21/19, 19/21, 21/18.
 
Fourth team end on a high, 19.03.2008
  Warwickshire’s fourth side enjoyed a 14-1 victory over their Buckinghamshire counterparts in their last home match of the Inter-County Championship season at St.Augustine’s Sports Club, Coventry.

The side enjoyed a clean sweep in the singles as Denesh Passi beat Mark Downie 15/21, 21/13, 21/18, Paul Grimley defeated Paul Rutson 21/12, 21/15, Fara Moloobhai beat Izzy McMillan 21/18, 17/21, 21/9 and Tracy Harris beat Vicky Norris 21/15, 21/1/7 to take a 4-0 lead.

Brothers Phil and Steve Baker won both mens doubles matches against Simon Ashden & Mark Downie and Steve Brown & Paul Rutson 21/13, 21/15 and 21/18, 21/16 and Dave Ingaston & Denesh Passi won one.

The ladies quartet of Kim Baker, Helen Richmond, Tracy Harris and Fara Moloobhai completed a clean sweep in the ladies doubles winning all four games in two straight games.

To complete the excellent result, all three mixed doubles pairings won in two straight games.

Phil Baker & Helen Richmond beat Simon Ashden & Ruth Gooden 21/9, 21/15, Paul Grimley & Kim Baker beat Mark Downie & Kate Norris 21/18, 23/21 and Denesh Passi & Sian Jones defeated Steve Brown & Izzy McMillan 21/15, 21/19.

Despite this great performance, the side have consolidated second position in Division 4C behind the promoted Nottinghamshire’s fourths.
 
Third team gain promotion to Division 2, 02.03.2008
  Warwickshire's 3rd and 5th sides were in action for second consecutive weekend at St.Augustine's Sports Club, Coventry as the thirds faced Mid Glamorgan firsts and the fifth's faced West Glamorgans firsts.

The thirds are celebrating after gaining automatic promotion to Division 2 next season as they won 12-3 but the 5th's lost 10-5 but was an excellent response after being whitewashed 15-0 at the start of the season.

The side managed to secure an early 3-1 lead after the singles matches. Tom Burton beat Dave Chartres 24/22, 21/12, Alice Walters defeated Amy Genders 22/24, 21/16, 21/14 and Rebecca Smith overpowered Emma Black 21/8, 21/8.

Solihull's John Hudson and Rob Forrester won both mens doubles matches against Jo Morgan & Dave Chartres 15/21, 21/19, 21/19 and Peter Barnes & Darius Garnham 21/11, 21/8. Jonathan Fletcher & Haydn Jones beat the second pairing.

The match was secured after the quartet of Sharon McGuire & Rose Winship and Sue Lee & Rebecca Smith won all four ladies doubles in two straight games to lead 10-2 with three mixed doubles remaining.

Haydn Jones & Sue Lee beat Jo Morgan & Helen Robbins 21/18, 16/21, 21/14 to secure Lee with three wins, Sam Barber & Rebecca Smith lost to Peter Barnes & Amy Genders to deny Smith four wins and Tom Burton & Alice Walters overcame Darius Garnham & Lucy Alexander 21/16, 21/11.

The fifth side again blooded some up and coming yougsters from the schools and they responded by winning five games against a tough Mid Glamorgan side.

Sian Jones took the honours with three doubles victories, two with Claire Mort and with Dave Moynihan in the mixed doubles. Claire Mort, Trina Robinson and Dave Moynihan won two games each in the defeat but there is optimism that the side will develop over the next few years.
 
Winning weekend for third and fifth teams, 25.02.2008
  Warwickshire’s third and fifth Inter-County sides continue their excellent progress in the County Championships after they both enjoyed excellent victories at St.Augustine’s Sports Club, Coventry.

The thirds beat Gloucestershire’s second side 9 –6 and the fifth’s beat Leicestershire’s fourth side 11-4.

The third side who are aiming to gain automatic promotion this season levelled the singles matches after Sam Barber beat Jake Wyatt 21/14, 21/14 and Rebecca Smith defeated Jeab Krachanghit 21/19, 21/13 to make up for the defeats by Tom Burton and Kate Strong.

The mens and ladies doubles matches followed on from the singles as both sides won four games each and went into the mixed doubles at 6-6.

Solihull’s John Hudson and Rob Forrester defeated both men’s combinations of Joe Griffiths & John Horsfield 21/19, 21/17 and Mike Kennedy and Ian Woolway 21/19, 21/9. Both the ladies pairings of Sue Lee & Kate Strong and Sharon McGuire defeated Helen Rutland and Jeab Krachanghit.

The points were secured as the home side won all three mixed doubles. Haydn Jones & Sue Lee beat Mike Kennedy & Mandy Joiner 21/16, 23/21, Sam Barber & Rebecca Smith defeated John Horsfield & Helen Rutland 21/19, 21/17 and Tom Burton & Kate Strong beat Ian Wooley & Jeab Krachanghit 23/21, 23/21.

The fifth side enjoyed a clean sweep in the singles against Leicestershire as Puneet Sharma beat Daniel Stanton 11/21, 21/10, 21/16, Ben Keighley beat Peter Chapman 21/17, 21/15, Claire Mort beat Jessica Meadows 21/17, 21/17 and Grace Ollivent beat Anna Bertram 21/16, 21/11.

The only mens’ doubles success cam for the Lawrence brothers Mark and Neil as they beat Peter Chapman & Daniel Stanton 15/21, 23/21, 21/19.

The ladies doubles redressed the balance as Kiera Mason and Sian Jones beat both pairings of Anna Bertram & Kerry Riley 26/24, 15/21, 21/15 and Rachel Jeffries & Jessica Meadows 21/16, 21/11. Claire Mort & Sarah Richards beat the first pair 21/18, 21/14.
Warwickshire won all three mixed doubles matches as Neil Lawrence & Sarah Richards beat Chris Farrin & Rachel Jeffries 29/27, 15/21, 22/20, Andrew Wainwright & Sian Jones beat Peter Chapman & Kerry Riley 21/14, 21/15 and Puneet Sharma & Grace Ollivent beat ben Keogh & Anna Betrem 21/13, 22/18.

An excellent result and a special mention to eight of the victories were down to the excellent under 16 stars of the future.
 
Two out of three for the vets, 17.02.2008
  Warwickshire’s veterans season has drawn to a close as the over 40’s, 45’s and 50’s played their last round of fixtures at the weekend.

The over 40’s faced Cheshire in the title decider at St.Augustine’s Sports Club and a win would have ensured a end of season play-off against Nottinghamshire.

However, the Cheshire side ran out 8-4 winners and look favourites to win the Division. Kenroy Harrison, Lindsay Dibble and Debra Pagington won two games each while David Wilson and Leroy Campbell won one game each.

Both the over 45 and 50’s faced Worcestershire at Barnt Green Sports Club and each finished the season with heavy victories.

The over 45’s beat Worcestershire seconds 10-2 and the over 50’s won 9-3. Mick Ollivent, Nick Pettman, Carol Hunt and Carol Moran each won three games each. Nigel Field, Steve Cole, Marion Field and Jackie Withers won two each.

Steve Yiend, Seng Wong, Carol Hunt and Judy Warrington won three games each in their 9-3 victory over Worcestershire.

Angela Attwood and Linda Woodcock won two games each to finish the season on a winning note.
 
2nd team stay up!, 11.02.2008
  Warwickshire’s second Inter-County side completed their set of matches in the Premier B Championships and after an excellent set of results at Milton Keynes, finished a creditable eighth.

They enjoyed a 6-4 win over Hampshire 2, drew with Cheshire 5-5 and lost 7-3 to Avon.

v Cheshire Draw 5-5

The side took an early 3-1 lead against Cheshire in the first of the matches in the final weekend after the singles matches.

Ben Stawski defeated Peter Ferns 18/21, 21/14, 21/16, Rajeev Bagga beat Steve Dawson 21/7, 21/17 and Mary Le Duillanec overcame Anna Wilson 21/19, 21/17.

However, this was short lived as Cheshire fought back to win the level doubles 3-1and the score were level at 4-4 with two mixed doubles remaining. Sara Mason and Joanne Homan defeated Emma Timms and Anna Wilson 21/16, 21/16 in the last ladies doubles match.

Despite Handal Suryaputra and Sara Mason loosing to Matt Spreake and England International, Ella Tripp, Anthony Homan & Tracy Robbins defeated Martin Tullett and Emma Timms to secure the draw 21/8, 18/21, 21/17.

v Avon Lost 7-3

The second match against Avon started well after the singles players won two out of the four matches and levelled the score at 2-2.

Rajeeva Bagga won his second men’s singles after he beat George Bevan 21/12, 21/11 and Mary Le Druillanec defeated Alison Marr 21/15, 21/16 after Ben Stawski and Fara Moolabhai lost in two straight games.

The level doubles proved to be the turning point in the match as Rajeev Bagga & Lewis Halsey were the only winners in the mens’ doubles after defeating Adam Porter & Geoffrey Ball 21/18, 16/21, 21/15.

Both mixed doubles combinations of Handal Suryaputra & Sara Mason and Antony Homan & Tracy Robbins lost their matches in three set thrillers.

v Hampshire 2 Won 6-4

To complete an excellent season for the seconds, they finished off in grand style with a win over Hampshire seconds.

The singles players again took the initative and won three out of the four matches.
Handal Suryaputra beat Andy Pen 16/21, 24/22, 22/20, Rajeev Bagga beat Steve Perkins 21/12, 21/11 and Mary Le Druillanec defeated Annie Avison 21/15, 20/22, 21/13.

The level doubles matches were shared as Rajeev and Lewis overcame Jon Hepworth & Steve Perkins 21/18, 17/21, 21/15 in the mens’ doubles and Sara Mason & Joanne Homan beat Sarah Mann & Josie Latimer 21/8, 21/16.

In the mixed doubles, Antony Homan & Tracy Robbins beat Hepworth & Mann to secure the points, winning 21/16, 21/16.

A special mention must go to Rajeev as he won all nine singles matches at number two throughout the campaign. It has been an exceptional year for the 40 year-old Coventry star and has been in outstanding form all season.

 
Emphatic wins for Veterans, 05.02.2008
  Warwickshire’s over 45 & 55 veteran’s sides were in action at St.Augustine’s Sports Club, Coventry in the latest round of matches in the Inter-County Championship.

Both enjoyed heavy victories as the 45’s defeated Shropshire 9-3 while the 55’s went one better with a 10-2 win over Northamptonshire.

Kenroy Harrison, Nigel Field and Ian Sandford took the honours winning three games each and Nick Pettman, Carol Moran, Rose Winship and Marion Field won two games each.

The over 55’s top performers in their heavy win were Pete Saunders, John Brown, Steve May and Dave Lawrence won three games each while Alison Cookson, Gail Bove, Grace Gallagher and Janet Keene won two games.

The Warwickshire second Inter-County side play their remaining three fixtures in Premier B this weekend at Milton Keynes.
The side face Cheshire, Avon and Hampshire 2in a bid to consolidate their position in the second tier after gaining promotion last season.

 
4th team beat Nottinghamshire, 28.01.2008
  Warwickshire’s fourth Inter-County side continue to impress after their latest victory in the County League after defeating their Nottinghamshire counterparts at St.Augustine’s Sports Club, Coventry.

The 9-6 victory reversed the early season 8-7 defeat to Nottingham at the start of the season and was thanks to another undefeated four victories performance by Coventry’s Fara Moloobhai.

The side made the ideal start as they won three out of the four singles. Denesh Passi defeated Matt Johnson 21/13, 21/13, Fara Moloobhai defeated Kim Winfer 21/10, 24/22 and Tracy Harris beat Helen Croft 21/11, 19/21, 21/17.

However, the men’s doubles lost three out of four matches with Passi and Dave Ingleson winning only one game.

The ladies combinations of Kim Baker & Helen Richmond and Fara Moloobhai & Tracy Harris winning all four matches to lead 8-4 with only the mixed doubles remaining.

The side lost the first two mixed doubles matches but Passi & Moloobhai won the final mixed doubles encounter against Ian Stockfield & Kim Winfer 21/18, 19/21, 21/16 to secure the match.

Warwickshire’s over 50 and 55 sides were in action after their latest round of matches. The over 50’s played at St.Augustine’s Sports Club, Coventry and the over 55’s at Rugeley.

The 50’s lost narrowly to Derbyshire on points after the scores and games were level at 6-6 and 13 games, respectively. They lost by ten points by 483 to 473. Carol Hunt & Judy Warrington won all three games winning both ladies doubles and mixed doubles with Steve Yiend and Vic James.

The over 55’s lost to the powerful Staffordshire side 8-4 with Alison Cookson winning all three games; both ladies doubles with Grace Gallacher and mixed doubles with Pete Saunders.

  Warwickshire’s over 40 and 55’s Inter-County sides took part in the recent Yehlex Championships at Stoke and Hatfield, respectively.

The over 40’s finished fourth out of five in Division 1A while the over 55’s finished bottom in seventh position in the Premier Division.

The 40’s had a tough group in Division 1A. They faced Yorkshire, Lancashire, Nottinghamshire 1 and Durham and had to play four matches on each day.

They had a fantastic start on the Saturday as they beat Durham 4-0 and drew 2-2 against all the other three sides and being the only County to draw with the eventual winners, Lancashire over the weekend.

On the Sunday they lost to Yorkshire 3-1 and Lancashire 4-0 but drew the other two matches and finish a creditable fourth. Linda Callender & Debra Padginton took the honours on the Saturday winning all four ladies doubles matches and winning two out of four on the Sunday.

The over 55’s were handicapped from the start as they only went with seven players and had to concede one match before the start of each game.

They lost 3-1 to Yorkshire, 3-1 to Leicestershire, 4-0 to Essex, 4-0 to Avon, 4-0 to Hampshire and 3-1 to Lancashire. Highlight for the side came from Grace Gallagher who won all three rubbers played.
 
Victorious weekend for veterans, 21.01.2008
  Warwickshire’s veteran County sides took central stage as there were no matches played last weekend in the Inter-County Championships.

The 40’s faced Oxfordshire at St.Augustine’s Sports Clubs, Coventry and the 55’s played Shropshire away. Both recorded excellent 10-2 victories.

It is now four wins out of four for the 40’s side as Danny Wallace, Lindsay Dibble, Linda Callender and Jackie Latham each won three games, while Kenroy Harrison, Leroy Campbell, David Wilson and Debra Padginton won two each.

The side are only one win away from a play-off in the Midlands Division where they are likely to face Nottinghamshire 1 to earn the right to the finals in April.

Dave Lawrence, Pete Saunders, Steve May, Alison Cookson, Grace Gallacher and Janet Keene won three games each for the over 55’s against Shropshire.

John Brown and Gail Bove won a further two games each to secure the points.
 
Third team and fifth team off to flying start, 15.01.2008
  Warwickshire’s third and fifth sides continue early success in January2008 after both enjoyed excellent victories after the latest round of Inter-County matches.

The thirds thrashed Oxfordshire’s seconds at St.Augustine’s Sports Club, Coventry and the fifths returned from Northamptonshire’s thirds with an 11-4 success.

Sam Barber and Helen Richmond levelled the singles matches at 2-2 after Barber beat Derek Holt 21/14, 17/21, 21/11 and Richmond defeated Becky Foster 15/21, 21/14, 21/14.

The match was decided in the level doubles matches as the men won three out of four while the ladies took a clean sweep and secure the victory before the mixed doubles.

John Hudson & Rob Forrester won both men’s doubles in two straight games against Paul Casey & Martin G 21/9, 21/1 and Simon Alexander & Phil Sayer 21/12, 21/18.

The ladies quartet of Rose Winship & Sharon McGuire and Kate Strong & Sue Lee won all four ladies matches to secure the points.

Warwick took all three mixed doubles as Hayden Jones & Sue Lee, Sam Barber & Helen Richmond and Tom Burton & Kate Strong each won in two games and gain the extra bonus point.

The fifth’s enjoyed the welcome return of Jo Homan to bolster the side and her vast experience helped the side to a comfortable 11-4 win over Northamptonshire.

Puneet Sharma beat Matt Ireland 21/15, 21/7 and Charlotte Kennedy overcame Bernie Westwood 21/13, 21/4 to level the singles matches at 2-2.

The men’s combinations of Mark Lawrence & Steve Baker and Dave Moynihan & Andrew Reeve completed a 4-0 whitewash while the ladies pairing of Jo Homan & Sarah Richards won both matches to take an 8-4 lead with the three mixed remaining.

All three combinations of Neil Lawrence & Sarah Richards, Alex Owens & Jo Homan and Puneet Sharma & Ruth Beyer won all three matches in two straight games.

 
Winning start to 2008 for 4th team, 08.01.2008
  Warwickshire’s fourth Inter-County side returned from Devon with an excellent 9-6 victory against their third side after their latest match in the Championships.

After defeating the side in their opening fixture of the season in Coventry 14-1, the victory was down to the ladies who produced the match winning display to earn the points.

Both Coventry’s Dinesh Passi and Fara Moolabhai levelled the match after both won their singles matches. Passi defeated Tom Rowley 21/17, 16/21, 22/20 and Moolabhai defeated the 14 year old Alice Feesey 13/21, 21/12, 21/11. Paul Grimley lost to Ben Wadkins and Tracy Harris to Nikita Smethurst.

The only success in the men’s doubles came from Passi and Dave Ingleson as they beat Darren Fishy & Jamie Robertson 21/10, 21/13.

The match turned for the visitors as the ladies won all four doubles as the Kim Baker & Helen Richmond and Tracy Harris & Fara Moolabhai partnerships won all games in two.

To complete the victory, Steve Baker & Helen Richmond beat Darren Fishy & Alice Feesey 14,21, 21/11, 21/15 and Dinesh Passi & Fara Moolabhai defeated Jaime Robertson & Gina Sawyer 22/20, 15/21, 23/21.

Warwickshire’s over 50 veterans side lost out by a narrow 7-5 verdict to Staffordshire.

Carol Hunt and Judy Warrington remained unbeaten after they won both ladies doubles and mixed with Steve Yiend and Vic James, respectively. James won two games.

 
1st and 2nd team final matches of 2007, 19.12.2007
  Warwickshire’s First and Second Inter-County sides played their second round of matches at Milton Keynes and Hatfield, respectively but it was not as productive as they anticipated.

The firsts had three defeats to Lancashire 6-4, Yorkshire 8-2 and Glasgow and North Shields 7-3 at Milton Keynes and are in fifth position on 30 points.

The seconds had an excellent 7-3 win over Derbyshire but lost to Nottinghamshire 9-1 and Yorkshire seconds, 8-2. They are in eighth position on 21 points and have a great chance of consolidating their status in the New Year.

v Lancashire L 6-4

Despite Mark Sellwood making a return to the side, both he and Chris Dakin lost their opening singles matches against Harry Wright 17/21, 21/18, 21/16 and Tom Dunlop 21/16, 21/15, respectively but the ladies pairing of Fontaine Chapman and Nicky Duerdon levelled the match.

Fontaine defeated Katie Hodgson 21/4, 21/5 and Duerdon defeated Nikki Burridge 21/12, 21/19. The match turned on the mens and ladies doubles matches as Warwickshire lost three out of four.

The only successful victories against the current reigning Champions in this match came from Fontaine Chapman and Chris Roe & Carl Goode in the men’s doubles.

Chapman defeated Lauren Allinson 21/12, 21/17 in the only singles victory and Chris Roe & Carl Goode enjoyed a top performance over the Andy Ellis & Edward Foster partnership in the only men’s doubles success. They won 14/21, 21/19, 21/19. Four out of the six doubles went to three games but the more experienced Yorkshire side managed to fall over the winning line on each occasion.

v Glasgow & North Shields L 7-3

With the return of Jill Pittard for this match, even her presence did not change the fortunes for Warwickshire.

She managed to defeat Helen McComber 21/3, 21/3 and Fontaine completed her three singles victories of the weekend with another emphatic victory over Lynne Kerr 21/5, 21/18 to share the four singles as Mark Sellwood and Chris Dakin both lost their men’s singles matches.

Like against Yorkshire, the match turned on the level men’s and ladies doubles matches winning only won one out of the four. Claire Millward & Nicky Duerdon defeated Lynne Kerr & Alison Laing 21/9, 21/16 in the only success to complete a disappointing weekend.

A great start to the weekend for the seconds as they enjoyed a 7-3 victory over Derbyshire but they could have won all 10 games.

The singles matches were shared as Handal Suryaputra lost to Grant Weir 9/21, 21/17, 21/15 and Mary Le Druillanec to Sarah Pulley 17/21, 22/20, 21/14. Rajeev Bagga defeated Ed Oldfield 21/10, 21/12 and Sarah Stevenson beat Linda Wood 21/15, 16/21, 21/18.

The men’s and ladies doubles games turned the tide in favour of Warwickshire as they won three out of four. Anthony Homan & Tim Lawrence beat Simon Shaw & Dave O’Hare 21/15, 21/15, Rajeev Bagga & Lewis Halsey beat Daryl Roebuck & Grant Weir 21/17, 13/21, 21/11 in the men’s doubles.

Sara Mason & Tracy Robbins beat Linda Wood & Sarah Pulley 12/21, 21/13, 21/11 to increase the score. The points were secured when both mixed doubles won both matches.

Handal Suryaputra & Sara Mason beat Simon Shaw & Rachel Gilchrist 21/16, 21/16 and Anthony Homan & Tracy Robbins beat Dave O’Hare & Lauren Roebuck 21/19, 21/11.

This was the toughest match of the weekend so far. The Nottinghamshire side have an excellent squad and look favourites to return the Premier A next season and had all the top players involved.

The only victory came from Rajeev Bagga in the men’s singles as he beat Peter Mills 21/14, 23/25, 21/19 and take his singles victories to five in five matches.

Another tough encounter for Warwickshire but Rajeev maintained his undefeated record to six singles wins as he beat Mark Middleton 21/12, 21/16 in his singles.

The only other victory came in the ladies doubles as Mary Le Druillanec & Sarah Stevenson defeated Laura Mercer & Jessica Fletcher 21/12, 21/16.

The side have an excellent chance of consolidating their position next season with the final round of matches taking place in February.

  Warwickshire’s third and fifth Inter-County sides played their last games this side of Christmas at St.Augustine’s Sports Club, Coventry against Shropshire firsts and Worcestershire’s thirds, respectively.

The thirds enjoyed a narrow last game decider victory over Shropshire but the fifths were on the receiving end of another heavy defeat, this time 13-2 against Worcs.

The third’s singles players only managed one win out of four in the opening matches with only Sam Barber defeating Tom Priestley 21/15, 21/13. Tom Burton lost 21/16, 21/19 to Stephen Ridge, Kate Strong 21/11, 19/21, 21/12 to Carolina Cordel and Rebecca Smith to Mandy Rawlings 21/19, 11/21, 21/11.

The mens doubles regained parity after Solihull’s John Hudson and Rob Forrester won both games against Stephen Rawlings & Kevin Hale and Chris Millett & Tom Priestle 21/14, 21/8 and 21/11, 21/13, respectively.
Hayden Jones & Jonathan Fletcher defeated the second pair to level the match.

The ladies doubles combinations of Sue Lee & Kate Strong and Sharon McGuire & Rose Winship won one game each against the first pairing of Carolina Cordel & Jane Millett.

With score level going into the mixed doubles, Hayden Jones & Sue Lee beat Tom Priestley & Mandy Rawlings 21/19, 21/15 but Sam Barber & Rebecca Smith lost 10/21, 21/14, 21/18 to Stephen Rawlings & Carolina Cordel but Tom Burton & Kate Strong took the match defeating kevin Hale & Jane Millett 21/15, 21/11.

Coventry’s Roshani Mann won two matches for the fifths in their heavy defeat. She defeated Kirsty O’Shaunessey 10/21, 21/18, 21/18 in her ladies singles and won one ladies doubles.

Both the first and second sides are in action in the second County weekend at Milton Keynes and Hatfield, respectively.

Away win for fourth team, 03.12.2007
  Warwickshire’s fourth Inter-County side visited Buckinghamshire’s fourth side at the weekend and returned with an excellent 9-6 win.

The singles matches were shared after Paul Grimley defeated Paul Rutson 21/16, 21/12 and Fara Moolabhai beat Izzy Macmillan 19/21, 21/14, 21/12, cancelling out defeats for Denesh Passi against Tuomas Mcvey 21/18, 21/16 and Tracy Harris lost to Vicky Norris 21/23, 23/21, 21/19.

The men’s doubles were shared when both Steve and Phil Baker and Denesh Passi and Paul Grimley defeated the second pairing of Steve Brown and Paul Ritson 21/18, 14/21, 21/16 and 21/15, 21/15, respectively.

The turning point of the match came in the ladies doubles matches as the Warwickshire quartet of Kim Baker, Helen Richmond, Tracy Harris and Fara Moolabhai won all four games to secure the victory.

The mixed doubles pairing of Phil Baker and Helen Richmond won the only game of three as they overcame Simon Ashington and Izzy Macmillan 21/14, 21/6 to gain an extra point.

The over fifty’s veterans side enjoyed their first win in three matches after they defeated Worcestershire at St.Augustine’s Sports Club, Coventry.

Seng Wong, Jeff Brown, Carol Hunt and Judy Warrington each won three games while Vic James and Jerry Carty won two further games each.
 
Away day in Wales, 03.12.2007
  Warwickshire’s third and fifth Inter-County sides played their recent matches away in Wales as the thirds lost a narrow 8-7 match to West Glamorgan firsts but the fifth’s were on the receiving end of a 15-0 whitewash to Mid Glamorgan firsts.

The thirds got off to a nightmare start as they lost all four singles matches as Tom Burton lost to Jo Morgan 21/5, 21/10, Jonathan Fletcher to Huw John 24/22, 21/19, Tracy Harris to Katy Howell 21/12, 21/7 and Roshani Mann to Amy Genders 17/21, 21/13, 21/14.

The men’s doubles could only manage two wins out of four but the ladies quartet of Rose Winship, Sharon McGuire, Sue Lee and Tracy Harris completed four wins and manage to level the match to 6-6 with the three mixed doubles to play.

Hayden Jones & Sue Lee lost to Jo Morgan and Helen Robbins 21/12, 21/18 but Rob Forrester and Roshani Mann beat Paul Genders and Martin Dix 21/14, 21/17 levelled again at 7-7.

Tom Burton & Sharon McGuire won the first game 21/15 against Chris Toonley & Katy Howell but lost the final two games 21/17, 23/21 in a last game decider.

The fifth side visited Mid Glamorgan firsts and were on the receiving end of a 15-0 defeat and only two of the men’s doubles matches went to three games.
 
Opening fixtures for first and second team, 12.11.2007
  Warwickshire’s First and Second Inter-County side’s played their opening round of fixtures in Premier A & B at the weekend. The firsts played at Nottingham University and the seconds played at Milton Keynes for the first time.

The Firsts enjoyed three straight victories over Leicestershire 8-2, Worcestershire 7-3 and Hampshire 6-4 and are in third position on 21 points two behind Essex and Yorkshire on 23.

The Seconds had a creditable debut but faced last season’s two relegated sides in Middlesex and Hertfordshire. They were on the receiving end of two defeats 7-3 and 8-2, respectively, but finished the weekend with an impressive 6-4 victory over Dorset. They are in eighth position on 11 points.

Excellent start in the singles as Chris Dakin defeated James White 22/20, 19/21, 21/18, Jill Pittard defeated Caroline Smith 20/22, 21/11, 21/9 and Fontaine Chapman beat Chelsey White 21/8, 21/19 to take a 3-1 lead.

Chris Roe & Carl Goode beat Mark King & James White 21/18, 21/4 in the men’s doubles and the Catherine Grant & Jill Pittard and Nicola Duerden & Claire Millward partnerships to secure the victory.

Chris Tonks & Catherine Grant beat Tom Arnold & Liz Brett 19/21, 21/15, 25/23 and Chris Roe & Claire Millward defeated Doug Henry Emma Henry 21/16, 21/18.

v Worcestershire Won 7-3

Handel Suryaputra, making his first team debut, beat Tony Cole 27/25, 23/21 in his singles and Jill Pittard made light work of her win over Elena Johnson 21/11, 21/6 to level the singles.

Warwickshire then took three out of the four level doubles as Tonks & Suryaputra beat Tony Cole & Jonathan Cowie 21/11, 21/13 and Roe & Goode beat Richard Wrigley & Dan Tomkins 21/11, 22/20

Grant & Pittard had a three set thriller against Lorraine Cole & Debbie Beeston-Smith. They eventually won 18/21, 21/19, 21/18.

Tonks & Grant defeated the Dan Tomkins & Tracy Baker combination 24/22, 21/14 and Roe & Millward defeated Jonathan Cowie & Debbie Beeston-Smith 21/16, 21/18 to win both mixed doubles.

v Hampshire Won 6-4

The final match of the weekend proved to be a nail biting one. At one stage the side were in danger of loosing the match after being 4-2 down.

The only winner in the singles event was Jill Pittard who defeated Jo Dix 21/10, 21/11 to go 3-1 behind. The men’s doubles were shared as Tonks & Suryaputra beat Chris Evans & Steve Smith 12/21, 21/17, 21/17.

Catherine Grant & Jill Pittard and Nicola Duerden & Claire Millward levelled the match at 4-4 with two excellent ladies doubles wins.

It was left to Tonks & Grant to beat Chris Evans & Sarah Burgess 18/21, 21/16, 21/13 and Roe & Millward defeated Chris Sharp & Jo Dix 21/17, 21/18 to take the match.

The seconds had an early baptism to Premier B after they faced last season’s relegated sides from Premier A, Middlesex and Hertfordshire in their first two matches.

Rajeev Bagga remained the only winner in the singles section after he defeated Alan D’Cruz 21/7, 21/11 and he formed an excellent partnership with Lewis Halsey in the men’s doubles as they defeated Alex Dean & Elvin Sum 21/9, 21/19.

Antony Homan and Tracy Robbins won the last mixed doubles after they defeated Jamie and Nicky Haywood 21/18, 21/18.

Hertforshire Lost 8-2

This proved to be a difficult encounter for the seconds as Hertfordshire had the England International duo of Gail Emms and Natalie Munt on show.

Rajeev Bagga again proved to be the only winner in both the men’s singles and mens doubles. He defeated Andy Waldon 21/16, 21/9 and partnered Lewis Halsey to beat Victor Leu and Lee Perry 21/10, 15/21, 21/15 in the mens doubles.

v Dorset Won 6-4

A great team effort and a well deserved victory in their final match of the weekend.

The men won both singles as Ben Stawski defeated Mark James 21/17, 21/16, Rajeev beat Tom Mansbridge 21/16 and Sarah Stevenson defeated Kelly Jackson 21/15, 21/14 in her ladies singles.

The side secured victory after winning three out of the four level doubles. Bagga and Halsey, who remained undefeated throughout, completed a treble of mens doubles victories after beating Mark James & Sam Ellis 21/11, 21/15.

  Warwickshire’s 3rd and 5th Inter-County sides played their latest round of Inter-County matches away to Gloucestershire’s seconds and Leicestershire’s fourths, respectively.

The thirds thrashed Gloucestershire seconds 13-2 but the fifths went down 10-5 to Leicestershire.

Coventry’s Sam Barber and Birmingham University’s Alice Walters lead the way for the thirds as they won all four games to remain undefeated in two games played.

The four singles matches were shared as Barber defeated Mike Kennedy 23/21, 21/15 and Walters beat Hannah Fletcher 21/12, 21/15.

Hayden Jones & Sam Barber defeated both men’s pairings of Joe Griffiths & Ian Wooley 21/15, 22/20 and Matt Siddell & Jake Wyatt 21/15, 21/11. Rob Forrester & Jonathan Fletcher beat the Griffiths/Wooley combination 21/17, 21/13 and Siddell/Wyatt 21/19, 21/3.

Fourth team brush aside Devon third team, 29.10.2007
  Warwickshire’s fourth Inter-County side produced a top display as they brushed aside Devon’s third side 14-1 at St.Augustine’s Sports Club, Coventry in their recent Inter-County match.

Coventry’s Dinesh Passey and Fara Moolabhai won the individual performances for the side as they both won all four matches.

Passey defeated Russell Walker 21/14, 21/15, Paul Grimley beat Owen Dimit 22/20, 21/18 Fara Moolabhai beat Nikita Smethurst 21/12, 21/3 but Tracy Baker lost her first ladies singles to 13 year-old Alice Feesey 21/13, 21/8.

Warwickshire’s Men’s and Ladies doubles secured all eight games. Dave Ingaston & Dinesh Passey and the Baker boys, Phil and Steve defeated the Owen Dimit & Darren Frisby and Richard Heliman and Russell Walker combinations.

Warwickshire’s over 50 and 55’s played there latest round of matches against Derbyshire and Leicestershire, respectively but ended with two defeats.

Carol Hunt won all three games for the over 50’s in their 8-4 defeat to Derbyshire. She won both ladies doubles with Judy Warrington and her mixed doubles with Steve Yiend. Chris Jones and Maria Lumley won the other mixed doubles match.

The over 55’s won two mixed doubles matches in the side’s 10-2 defeat away to Leicestershire. Dave Lawrence and Grace Gallagher and Pete Saunders and Jackie Keene won one game each.

  Warwickshire’s 3rd, 4th and 5th Inter-County sides were in action over the weekend and they managed two victories and one narrow defeat.

The thirds defeated Oxfordshire’s seconds away in Oxford, the fifths demolished Northampton’s thirds 12-3 at St.Augustine’s Sports Club but the fourths lost a narrow 8-7 defeat to Nottinghamshire’s fourths away.

Coventry’s Sam Barber lead the way for the third’s impressive win over Oxford after winning all four of his games.

The four singles matches were shared as Barber defeated Chris Burden 21/11, 21/12 and Tom Burton beat Derek Hill 14/21, 21/12, 21/18.

Hayden Jones & Sam Barber defeated both men’s pairings of Andrew Purrett & Simon Alexander 21/18, 21/15 and Derek Holt & Chris Burden 21/16, 21/18. Tom Burton & Jonathan Fletcher beat the Burden/Holt combination 19/21, 21/19, 21/12.

Sue Lee & Rebecca Smith won both ladies doubles against Nicola Tongerson & Nicola Cox 21/15, 22/20 and Becky Foster & Helen Ashdown 21/15, 21/4. Sharon McGuire & Rose Winship defeated Foster/Ashdown 21/13, 14/21, 21/13.

Roshini and Sam Richards defeated Beth Ryder & Fiona Baker 21/13, 21/14 and Alison Wright & Katie Han 21/10, 21/8 in the ladies doubles. Charlotte Kennedy & Ceria Man completed a clean sweep in the ladies by winning 21/11, 21/13 and 21/15, 21/13, respectively.

The Lawrence/Richards combination beat the Read/Ryder mixed doubles pairing 21/19, 13/21, 21/16 and Reeve/Man defeated the Heath/Wright pair 21/10, 22/20.

The fourths were involved in a tight match against a strong Nottingham side. They lead 7-5 with the three mixed matches remaining but unfortunately they lost all three to miss out.

The ladies produced an excellent display winning both ladies singles and all four doubles. Tracy Harris and Fara Moolabhai took the honours winning three games each.

Fara Moolabhai defeated Rachel Buxton 21/7, 21/5 and Tracy Harris beat Kerrie Mooney 15/21, 21/12, 21/11. They joined forces to beat Ellen Housley & Rachel Buxton 21/11, 21/17 and Kerrie Mooney & Elisa Townley 21/15, 21/13.

Ruth Beyer & Kim Baker won 16/21, 21/12, 21/13 and 20/22, 21/19, 21/12, respectively.

Warwickshire’s over 40 veterans side opened their season with an emphatic 11-1 win over Shropshire. Leroy Campbell, Danny Wallace, Kenroy Harrison, Linda Callender, Jackie Latham and Lindsay Dibble won all three games. Debra Padgington and John Brown won two games each.

The 45 veterans side went down 8-4 with Angela Attwood and Judy Warrington winning both ladies doubles and Maria Lumley won one ladies doubles and mixed doubles with Richard Llewllyn.
 
Winning start for 4th Team, 15.10.2007
  Warwickshire’s fourth side began the new Inter-County season where they left off last season. They defeated Staffordshire’s third side 9-6 in their opening fixture at St.Augustine’s Sports Club, Coventry the same score at the end of last season.

Coventry’s Dinesh Passey led the way with an outstanding individual performance by winning all four matches.

Passey defeated Steve McMinn 21/14, 21/20, Paul Grimley beat Cameron Owen 21/11, 21/14 and Tracy Harris was involved in a three set thriller against Claire Perks. She won the first game 21/16 lost the second 10/21 but won the third 30/29 to take a 3-1 lead.

Phil Baker and Passey won both men’s doubles against Paul Cope & McMinn 21/18, 21/18 and beat Sam Freeman & Simon Goodwin 21/19, 14/21, 21/17 and Andrew Reeve & Dave Mohnihan beat Freeman & Goodwin.

Tracy Harris & Fara Moolabhai and Kim Baker & Charlotte Kennedy shared the ladies doubles 2-2 going into the mixed doubles.

Grimley & Baker defeated Paul Cope & Hanna Mayer 18/21, 21/18, 21/17 and Passey completed four wins with Moolabhai against Goodwin & Alison Reynolds 18/21, 21/18, 21/16 to completed their excellent start to the season.

Warwickshire’s over 45 veterans side were on the receiving end of a thrashing against Derbyshire. Carol Moran and Jacki Withers were the only winners in the ladies doubles.
 
Warwickshire Restricted Tournament 2007, 11.10.2007
  Former Birmingham University student, Chris Dakin, claimed his fourth men’s singles title in the 79th Annual Warwickshire Restricted Tournament at St.Augustine’s Sports Club, Coventry.

The 29 year-old dentist defeated doubles specialist, Chris Tonks in a tough two game encounter running out a 22/20, 23/21 winner.

“Although the score looks close, I feel that I was in total control but it was tough as Chris has a great smash and I did not want to be involved in that type of game. By making him move around the court played into my hands.”

Coventry’s 17 year-old Fontaine Chapman won her second title in three year’s after defeating a spirited fight back by Second County team player, Mary Le Duillanec in the ladies singles final.

Despite winning the first game 21/12, Le Duillanec raised her game in the second to win 27/25 and played on Chapman’s weakness on her backhand. However, Chapman took control of the third game and ran out an easy 21/8.

Coventry’s Chris Roe continues to dominate the doubles events as he once again won both the men’s and mixed doubles titles.

He partnered Anthony Homan in the mens doubles and they overcame Chris Tonks & Tim Lawrence in the final winning in two straight games 21/18, 21/18.

Roe and Catherine Grant won their fourth consecutive mixed doubles title defeating Tonks with Helen Richmond in a three game thriller, 21/8, 19/21, 21/18.

Le Druillanec and Sarah Stevenson won their first Ladies Doubles title after defeating Chapman and Sarah Strong with a comfortable 21/12, 21/14 victory.

Warwickshire’s over 50 & 55 veteran sides had mixed fortunes after competing in their opening fixtures of the season.

The 55’s thrashed Northampton 10-2 but the 50’s went down narrowly 7-5 to Staffordshire.

John Brown, Dave Lawrence, Steve May, Les Armfield, Alison Cookson and Gail Bove won all three games for the over 55’s.

Carol Hunt remained the top performer for the 50’s side winning all three games, two with Judy Warrington in the ladies doubles and a mixed doubles victory with Steve Yiend. Jerry Horne and Yiend won a further two games each.
 
1st team settle for 3rd place, 01.04.2007
  The last Premier A Inter-County season came to a conclusion this weekend at Milton Keynes as Warwickshire faced Essex, Glasgow and Yorkshire.

The side drew 5-5 with Essex but suffered two losses to Glasgow 6-4 and Yorkshire 7-3 to finish joint third with Surrey in the table behind Champions, Yorkshire and Essex.

v Essex – Draw 5-5

The singles players got Warwickshire off to a poor start as they won only one of the four.

Mark Sellwood lost to Darren Plant 21/11, 21/15, Chris Dakin to Simon Hardcastle 18/21, 21/14, 21/14 and Catherine Grant to Caroline Westley 21/4, 21/11. However, Fontaine Chapman defeated Caroline Felton 21/11, 21/6.

Chris Tonks & Anthony Homan beat James Anderson & Smon Hardcastle 21/16, 17/21, 21/16 and Chris Roe & Carl Goode beat Joel Gayle & Andy Faye 22/20, 21/19. Nicola Duerden & Claire Millward levelled the match after they beat Viv Gillard & Caroline Felton 21/11, 21/11.

The mixed doubles were shared after Tonks & Grant beat Anderson & Westley 21/15, 18/21, 21/18 but Roe & Millward lost to Gayle & Felton 23/25, 21/19, 21/17.

v Glasgow lost 6-4

After the disappointing start against Essex in the singles, Warwickshire shared the honours as Chris Dakin defeated Greg Anderson 21/16, 21/19 and Fontaine Chapman beat Emma Mason 21/14, 21/19 to cancel out the defeats to Sellwood to Gordon Thomson and Mary Le Druillanec to Helen Blair.

The match turned on the men’s and ladies doubles as they won only one out of the four games to fall behind 5-3 with only the mixed doubles remaining. Chris Roe & Carl Goode defeated Greg Anderson & Gordon Thomson 21/14, 19/21, 21/16 in the only doubles success.
Tonks & Homan lost to Stuart Kerr & Colin Hill 13/21, 21/14, 21/17, Catherine Grant & Sara Mason to Imogen Bankier 21/18, 21/10 and Nicola Duerden & Claire Millward to Helen Blair & Alison Lang 10/21, 23/21, 21/13.

Again the mixed doubles were shared. Tonks & Grant lost to Hill & Bankier 21/17, 21/17 but Roe & Millward beat Thomson & Mason 22/20, 21/14.

The final game of the Inter-County season for Warwickshire ended in a second defeat of the weekend as they went down 7-3.

Only one of the singles players recorded a victory in the first four games and found themselves on the receiving end of a 3-1 deficit.

Chris Dakin, who had an excellent weekend, beat Alex Marritt 12/21, 21/18, 21/11to the register the only win. Mark Sellwood beat Andrew Ellis 21/13, 21/16, Fontaine Chapman lost to Jenny Day 21/16, 22/20 and Mary Le Druillanec lost to Helen Wood 15/21, 21/8, 21/11.

Chris Roe & Carl Goode remained undefeated in the men’s doubles for the weekend as they beat Andrew Ellis & Jaime Vincent 21/18, 16/21, 21/18.

Tonks & Homan lost to the Foster brothers, Stephen & Edward, 21/17, 21/16, Grant & Mason to Sarah Bok & Justine Evans 21/18, 21/14 and Duerden & Millward to Jenny Day & Helen Ward 18/21, 23/21, 24/22.

The final two mixed doubles matches went to Yorkshire asChris Tonks & Catherine Grant lost to Stephen Foster & Sarah Bok 16/21, 21/19, 21/16 and Chris Roe & Claire Millward to Edward Foster & Jenny Day 23/21, 24/22.

Second team win title to claim Premier B promotion, 26.03.2007
  Warwickshire’s second Inter-County side are celebrating promotion into Premier B next season after defeating Norfolk firsts 9-6 in their final game of the season.
The side shared the first four singles games after Handal Suryaputra lost to Ian Murphy 21/15, 21/18, Mike Radtcliffe beat Jonathan Cooper 21/16, 21/17, Mary Le Druillanec lost to Katherine Cooper 21/11, 21/10 and Sarah Stevenson beat Michell Lewin 21/15, 21/4.

The turning point of the match came in the eight doubles matches when Warwickshire secured victory after winning seven out of eight and claimed the title.

Coventry’s Carl Goode & Handal Suryaputra and Leicestershire’s Mark Paulson & Coventry’s Mike Radtcliffe completed four wins in the men’s doubles to set the side on the way.

Mary Le Druillanec & Sarah Stevenson completed two victories in the ladies doubles and Sara Mason & Tracy Robbins won one out of two to secure the victory.

The final mixed doubles matches were an anti-climax as Carl Goode & Sara Mason lost to Ian Murphy & Gillian Cox 21/17, 21/17, Handal Suryaputra & Mary Le Druillanec to Alex Wyett & Katherine Cooper 21/19, 23/25, 21/16 and Tim Lawrence & Tracy Robbins to Justine Gerrard and Amber Lillingston 21/19, 21/10.

Team manager, Brian Moynihan paid tribute to the side’s success. “It has been a lot of hard work to get the side up this season. It has almost killed me off but it was worth it. All the squad have contributed to the cause and has paid off”

The third side consolidated fourth position as they signed off their season with an excellent 12-3 win over Norfolk’s seconds.

Sam Barber beat Michael Philpott 21/10, 21/19, Tom Burton beat James Worthington-Hill 21/16, 21/18, Tracy Harris overcame Kimberley Spiers 21/16, 21/15 to take an early 3-1 lead in the singles.

Tom Burton & Jonathan Fletcher completed two victories in the men’s doubles in two straight games and Steve & Phil Baker won one.

Kate Strong & Rebecca Smith took both ladies doubles and Rose Winship & Sharon McGuire won one to secure the victory.

Sam Barber & Kate Strong beat Andrew Piff & Lucy Curran 21/17, 21/19, Phil Baker & Rebecca Smith defeated Paul Danes & Helen Newstead 21/15, 21/15 and Jonathan Fletcher & Sharon McGuire beat Michael Philpott & Stephanie Buttle 23/21, 21/16 to complete a clean sweep in the mixed doubles.

Fourth team lose their final match, 18.03.2007
  Warwickshire’s fourth side completed their Inter-County season against Staffordshire’s thirds at St.Augustine’s Sports Club, Coventry with a 9-6 defeat.

Despite this defeat, the side finished a creditable second. Coventry’s Paul Grimley, Fara Moolabhai, Helen Richmond and Solihull’s Rob Forrester contributed two victories each.

The singles matches were shared as Grimley defeated Cameron Owen 21/13, 21/7 and Fara Moolabhai defeated Alison Jeans 21/11, 21/16 after Alistair Smith lost to Paul Cope 21/11, 21/16 and Tracy Harris to Hannah Mayer 21/6, 21/9 but was restricted due to a calf problem.

However, the mens and ladies doubles matches were a complete disaster. Fara Moolabhai and Helen Richmond were the only winners in eight games when they beat Alison Jeans and Alison Reynolds in the ladies doubles 21/12, 21/14.

In the mixed doubles the combinations won all three games. Steve Baker & Sue Lee defeated Andrew Plant 18/21, 21/15, 21/11, Paul Grimley & Helen Richmond defeated Matt Jeans & Alison Reynolds 22/20, 21/16 and Rob Forrester & Nadine Towel beat Paul Cope & Alison Jeans 21/18, 21/13.

The second and thirds are in action away to Norfolk’s first this weekend and a victory for the second side will secure them Premier B status next season.
 
Unlucky day for 3rd and 5th teams, 05.03.2007
  Warwickshire’s 3rd and 5th Inter-County sides were both in action at the weekend as they visited Suffolk’s 1sts and Buckinghamshire’s 4th’s, respectively, in the latest round of matches.

The thirds were on the receiving end of an 11-4 defeat away to Suffolk while the 5th’s lost 10-5 to Bucks at St.Augustine’s Sports Club.

Both Lewis Halsey and Sam Barber produced excellent victories over John Isaacson 21/16, 21/10 and Mark Clackett 21/11, 21/4, respectively to take an early 2-0 lead. However, Kate Strong and Ruth Beyer lost to Toni Sturgeon and Alyc Kindred, respectively.

Lewis Halsey and Phil Baker defeated John Isaacson and Steve Cooke 20/22, 21/14, 21/11 in the mens doubles but that was the only victory in eight matches as Tom Burton & Jonathan Fletcher, Kate Strong & Ruth Beyer and Sue Lee & Rose Winship lost both games.

Halsey took his personal wins to three out of four as he and Sharon McGuire were the only winners in the mixed doubles as they overcame Steve Cooke & Jo Hughes 21/5, 21/13.

The fifth side gave Champions Buckinghamshire’s fourth’s their toughest match of the season despite loosing 10-5.

Eight out of the eleven doubles matches went the three games distance and could have turned out in favour of Warwickshire. All produced a creditable performance.

Coventry’s Dinesh Passey was the only singles winner as he defeated Dave McMillan 21/9, 23/21. Neil Lawrence lost to Michael Statham 21/15, 21/18, Any Stewart lost to Natalie Gilders 21/10, 21/17 and Sarah Richards went down to Mary Gilders 13/21, 21/6, 21/9.

Dave Iglestone and Steve Baker beat Dave McMillan & Mark Lee 12/21, 21/19. 21/13 and Sue Lee & Sarah Richards beat Natalie Gilders & Vanessa Hollis 21/19, 21/13 in the only doubles successes.

In the mixed doubles, Inglestone & Lee beat Michael Statham & Vaness Hollis 17/21, 21/14, 21/18 and Passey & Stewart beat Steve Brown and Minty Gilders 19/21, 21/9, 21/17.
Warwickshire’s over 45 and 55’s were in action too. The over 45’s won their first match of the season against Worcestershire’s seconds 10-2.

Nick Pettman, Jerry Horne, Carol Hunt, Diane Essez, Angela Attwood and Marie Lumley each won three games each to complete the season.

The over 55’s were on the receiving end of a 10-2 defeat to Leicestershire. The only winners were in the mixed doubles as Dave Lawrence & Grace Gallagher and Les Armfield and Alison Cookson won one game each.

2nd team still on course for Premier B, 25.02.2007
  Warwickshire’s 2nd and 4th Inter-County sides were both in action at the weekend as they visited Buckinghamshire’s 2nds and Leicestershire’s 3rds, respectively, in the latest round of matches.

The seconds took a giant leap in gaining automatic promotion into Premier B next season as they won 8-7 against Bucks while the 4th’s lost out by the same 8-7 score. A win over Norfolk in three week’s time will give the seconds that achievement.

The singles players only managed to win one of the first four singles after Handal Suryaputra defeated George Wood 21/8, 21/17. Lewis Halsey lost to Jamie Gunthard 21/19, 21/18, Mary Le Druillanec to Jenny Crump 18/21, 15/21, 21/17 and Sarah Stevenson to Karen Hird 12/21, 21/17, 21/7.

The mens doubles combinations of Anthony Homan & Tim Lawrence and Mark Poulsen & Lewis Halsey each won one mens doubles but the ladies took the iniative and won three out of four.

Sara Mason & Tracy Robbins won both matches and Le Duillanec & Stevenson won one game to lead 6-5 with three games to go.

The Homan & Mason and Hayden Jones & Robbins combinations took the points after they defeated Jaime Gunthard & Jenny Crump 21/10, 21/14 and Andy Statham & Karen Hird 21/19, 21/18, respectively.

The fourths endured a 4-0 whitewash in the singles the last time they play Leicestershire’s thirds at the start of the season but this time they shared the spoils.

Paul Grimley defeated Peter Chapman 21/15, 21/15 and Tracy Harris beat Jennifer Scarlett 21/12, 15/21, 23/21 after Alistair Smith and Fara Moolabhai lost their matches.

Rob Forrester continues his impressive form as he and Steve Baker won both men’s doubles cancelling out the two defeats by Andrew Reeve and Alistair Smith.



The ladies only won one games out of four where Fara Moolabhai and Helen Richmond beat the second ladies pair.

The match was lost after Steve Baker & Nadine Towell lost at number 1 but Rob Forrester & Tracy Harris beat Gareth Roy & Emma Running 21/12, 21/19 and Paul Grimley & Kim Baker beat Lee Frith & Kirsty Askew 22/20, 19/21, 21/14.

Despite this defeat, the fourths will finish runners-up to Leicester with one match remaining.

Third team get a point from Staffordshire, 18.02.2007
  Warwickshire’s third and fifth Inter-County sides were in action this weekend. The thirds entertained Staffordshire’s seconds at St.Augustine’s Sports Club and the fifth’s visited Oxfordshire’s fourths at the Radley Sports Centre.

The thirds lost 9-6 to Staffs while the fifth’s defeated Oxfordshire’s fourths by the same 9-6 scoreline.

Warwickshire’s thirds took an early 3-1 lead after they won three out of the four singles matches.

Lewis Halsey defeated Andy Aspinall 21/13, 23/21, John Hudson beat Matt Gregory 21/17, 22/24, 22/20 and Rebecca Smith overcame Louise Hanson 21/18, 21/12.

The mens doubles combinations of Sam Barber & Pete Wiley and Tom Burton & Jonathan Fletcher each defeated the second pairing of Darren Chesworth and Matt Gregory in two straight games to lead 5-3.

However, the usually reliable ladies combinations of Sharon McGuire & Rose Winship and Rebecca Smith & Kate Strong lost all four games in two straight games and went into the mixed doubles 5-7 down.

Lewis Halsey and Sharon McGuire were the only victors when they defeated Andy Aspinall and Jo White 21/15, 19/21, 21/9 but John Hudson & Kate Strong and Phil Baker & Rebecca Smith lost their mixed doubles matches in three games.

The fifth’s enjoyed their second victory in four away to Oxford’s fourth’s.

Unlike the third’s, the only singles winner out of the four matches was 17 year-old Amy Stewart making her senior County debut. She defeated Cornelia Schaffer 21/19, 19/21, 21/17 in her ladies singles to record the only win in four.

The match turned on the level doubles as both the mens and ladies won six out if eight games to lead 7-5. Dave Inglestone & Steve Baker won both mens doubles and Dave Moynihan & Mark Lawrence won one.

Sue Lee & Sarah Richards won both ladies doubles and Jenny Day & Amy Stewart won one match.

Inglestone & Jenny Day defeated Sam Isaccs & Lauren Cooper 21/13, 21/11 and Neil Lawrence & Sue Lee defeated Will Green & Kathy Shuttleworth 21/16, 21/17 to secure the points.

Warwickshire’s over 50’s side completed their season with a victory over Staffordshire. The score was level at 6-6 each but won on games 15-14 and by 527 to 526 on points.

Carol Hunt and Judy Warrington remained undefeated in three games. They won both ladies doubles and mixed doubles with Steve Yiend and Vic James, respectively.

Paul Burton and Steve Yiend contributed a further two wins each to end the season on a high.
 
2nd and 4th team thrash Lincolnshire, 11.02.2007
  Despite a two week break in the Inter-County Championships, Warwickshire’s second and fourth sides were in impressive form as they both thrashed Lincolnshire at St.Augustine’s Sports Club, Coventry.

The seconds defeated their firsts 11-4 and the fourths went one further with an impressive 12-3 victory over their seconds.

After the first four singles matches for the seconds, the scores were level at 2-2 after Handal Suryaputra beat Steve Mumby 21/10, 21/19 and Alice Walters defeated Rebecca Phillips 21/11, 21/16 but Ben Stawaski lost to Jason Marshall 21/19, 16/21, 21/8 and Mary Le Druillanec lost to Alex Langley 21/19, 22/20.

The men doubles matches were shared as Anthony Homan and Carl Goode won both in two straight games but Steve Poulsen and Mark Poulsen lost both.

The ladies doubles quartet of Sara Mason, Tracy Robbins, Mary Le Druillanec and Sarah Stevenson ensured the win after winning all four games with the three mixed doubles remaining.

All three pairings produced the goods after Carl Goode and Sara Mason beat Jason Marshall and Alex Langley21/15, 21/18, Anthony Homan and Alice Walters beat Paul Mansfield and Anna Wilson 21/8, 21/17 and Hayden Jones and Tracy Robbins beat Lee Marshall and Rebecca Phillips 22/21, 21/9.

The fourths went one further after they beat Lincolnshire’s seconds 12-3 after they won three out of the four singles. Paul Grimley beat Chris Smith 21/11, 21/9, Fara Moolabhai beat Liz Vaughan 22/20, 23/25, 21/18 and Tracy Harris beat Sam Beale 22/20, 19/21, 25/23.

Rob Forrester and Steve Baker enjoyed two victories in the men’s doubles and Alistair Smith and Andrew Reeve won one to lead the match at 6-2.

The ladies quartet completed a grand slam of victories as Sharon Bowen, Kim Baker, Fara Moolabhai and Helen Richmond won all four ladies doubles.

Paul Grimley and Kim Baker defeated David Butler and Sam Beal 21/17, 21/16 and Rob Forrester and Tracy Harris beat Tim Ought and Sharon Levick 21/10, 21/9 to seal the extra points.
 
Impressive victories for Veterans, 08.02.2007
  Warwickshire’s over 50 and 55’s were in action at St.Augustine’s, Coventry and both enjoyed much needed victories.

The 50’s defeated Staffordshire on games 15-12 after the score was tied at 6 games each and the over 55’s side enjoyed an impressive 8-4 victory over Northamptonshire.

Carol Hunt completed an undefeated display for the over 50’s after she won both ladies doubles with Judy Warrington and mixed doubles with Steve Yiend.

Two wins each for Angela Attwood and Kath Cotterill completed an excellent victory on games.

Gail Bove completed an excellent performance in the over 55’s as she won both ladies doubles with Isobel Jones and her mixed doubles with Dave Lawrence.

Pete Saunders, Les Armfield, Dave Lawrence, Alison Cookson and Isobel Jones completed two further victories each.
